The Soldier's Tale is an animation work by Igor Stravinsky composed in 1917. The text was written by his friend Charles Ferdinand Ramuz and features three actors (the soldier, the devil, and the princess) and seven instruments (violin, double bass, bassoon, cornet, trombone, clarinet, and percussion).
A soldier, returning home from war, chances upon a stranger who offers to buy his violin, the stranger is none other than the devil.
