Back by popular demand, the Williams Center invites you to “Studio Ghibli Sundays,” a year-long series in which we dedicate one night a week to screening and celebrating the works of Studio Ghibli.
Hayao Miyazaki’s passion for aviation, a subtle motif throughout his previous works, takes center stage in this postwar drama starring a World War I fighter pilot turned bounty hunter. Cursed to live with a pig’s head, he remains on the run from government forces while taking down local pirates, that is until a new pilot challenges him to a dogfight that forces him to confront his past. As much a showcase for Miyazaki’s knowledge of period aircraft as it is a rebuke of fascism, Porco Rosso is a lesser-seen gem in Miyazaki’s filmography.
