Back by popular demand, the Williams Center invites you to “Studio Ghibli Sundays,” a year-long series in which we dedicate one night a week to screening and celebrating the works of Studio Ghibli.
Isao Takahata’s second feature for Studio Ghibli, following his harrowing war drama Grave of the Fireflies, continues his focus on intimate family drama sans supernatural flourish. Taeko, a career-driven woman living in Tokyo, decides to take a reprieve from city life and visit her in-laws in the rural town of Yamagata. Colored by both pleasant and painful memories of her own childhood, Taeko’s visit brings new appreciation for the charm of farm life as well as a connection with handsome local Toshio.
