Back by popular demand, the Williams Center invites you to “Studio Ghibli Sundays,” a year-long series in which we dedicate one night a week to screening and celebrating the works of Studio Ghibli.
Before they were Studio Ghibli, they were Topcraft, a humble anime studio hired by Hayao Miyazaki to helm an adaptation of his own manga. The result, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, was a massive success and led to Studio Ghibli’s founding one year after its release. Centered on a courageous princess (a female heroine vastly ahead of her time) who must save her world from nuclear destruction, it features many of what are now considered the studio’s trademarks: sweeping fantasy action, environmentalist themes, and grandiose score by Joe Hisaishi.
