On the Bowery

  • Williams Center 15 Sylvan Street Rutherford, NJ, 07070 United States (map)

American neorealist Lionel Rogosin documents three days in the drinking life of Ray Salyer, a railroad worker, as he passes from bar, to church, to homeless shelter in New York’s Bowery community. One of the nominees for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards, this underseen gem captures a community with rare access and, ironically, sobering insight.
