In 1972, Sydney Pollack filmed vocal powerhouse Aretha Franklin recording her transplendent gospel album Amazing Grace with the help of the Southern California Community Choir. Technical issues kept the footage in the vault for over 30 years, that is until film producer Alan Elliott restored it to its proper glory and released it in collaboration with Franklin’s estate less than a year after her death. The resulting effort stands as a memorial to the vocalist and her immense talents, captured with stunning visual and sonic clarity against the backdrop of a lively, dynamic church audience.
