20,000 Species of Bees

  • Williams Center 15 Sylvan Street Rutherford, NJ, 07070 United States (map)

The winner of three Goya Awards (the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars) and three prizes at the illustrious Berlin International Film Festival, Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren’s assured narrative feature debut tells the story of a fractured family spending their summer vacation in Spain’s picturesque Basque Country. At the center of the conflict sits nine-year-old Aitor (portrayed by Sofia Otero, the youngest acting winner in Berlin’s history), a child born male who decides she would rather live as a girl. 20,000 Species of Bees is a rare drama, exploring child gender identity and family reconciliation with sensitivity and understanding.
